This project aims to demonstrate what additional value can be captured through secondary sorting to recover packaging that cannot efficiently be separated at the material recovery facility (MRF). By creating new streams of valuable recyclables, we can reduce the material headed to landfill, positively change the economics of recycling and increase the supply of available recycled materials.
This project will run for 60 days, testing the recovery potential using materials from four, Portland-metro MRFs.
