Each year the American Chemistry Council (ACC) and Plastics Industry Trade Association partner with the Trash Free Seas Alliance to organize an International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) event in Washington, DC. The highly anticipated annual project is a way for DC based plastics industry staffers to demonstrate our commitment to keeping used plastics out of the environment. In 2015 more than 40 volunteers participated in the litter cleanup event at a cleanup site along the Anacostia River. We collected over 300 pounds of trash and gathered data on specific litter items.
More than 18 million pounds of trash was collected by nearly 800,000 volunteers during the 2015 International Coastal Cleanup.
