U.S. plastics associations joined a large coalition advocating for multi-pronged federal legislation to reauthorize the U.S. marine debris program. The Save Our Seas Act passed in 2018. Among other provisions, the bill directed U.S. agencies to support global efforts to combat marine litter. Plastics associations are now supporting the Save Our Seas 2.0 Act, which will improve domestic recycling infrastructure through a state revolving loan fund, and support research into innovative uses for plastic waste, among other provisions.
